2010 Parker-Dooley Awards for Undergraduate Research in Southern Studies
The Southern Historical Collection (SHC) invites UNC Chapel Hill faculty members and instructors to submit exceptional undergraduate research papers for a Parker-Dooley Award for Undergraduate Research in Southern Studies. Student authors will have made substantial use of the resources held in the Southern Historical Collection.
The paper, essay, or other significant product of research, written and turned in during the Spring, Summer, or Fall 2010 sessions, will be judged on the overall excellence of both conceptualization and presentation, the quality of the writing, and the effective use of primary sources held in the Southern Historical Collection.
One award of $500 will be made for the paper judged to be the best submission, and two smaller awards of $250 will also be made. The three award recipients will present their papers at a program hosted by the Southern Historical Collection in fall 2011. The award selection committee reserves the right to sub-divide awards for equally outstanding submissions or to make fewer awards than are available if an inadequate number of excellent papers are submitted.
Submissions:
To submit a student paper, the faculty member or instructor should complete this brief form and send the form and the paper as attachments by email to Laura Clark Brown at ljcb@email.unc.edu. Alternatively, the faculty member may send a hard copy of the paper and the form through campus mail to the SHC, Attn: Laura Clark Brown at CB #3926. Submissions must be received by 4 February 2011.
[UPDATE: The SHC will accept submissions through 18 February 2011.]
