#40006 THE RECORDS OF THE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT: FRANK PORTER GRAHAM FILES 1930-1932 in the University Archives and Records Service Wilson Library, CB# 3926 University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Chapel Hill, North Carolina 27514-8890 The records in this group are those of Frank Porter Graham as President of the University of North Carolina. They date from July 1, 1930, when Graham succeeded Harry W. Chase, to November 14, 1932, when he became President of the newly created Consolidated University of North Carolina, which included the University of North Carolina (in Chapel Hill), North Carolina State College (in Raleigh), and Woman's College (in Greensboro). With consolidation, the title of the chief administrative officer of the Chapel Hill campus became Dean of Administration (in 1945 it changed to Chancellor). After Graham's selection as Consolidated University President, the Board of Trustees was slow to fill his former campus position. Indeed, until July 2, 1934, when Robert B. House was named Dean of Administration, Frank Graham served as President of both the Chapel Hill campus and the Consolidated University system. The files of Graham's predecessors as campus President are part of a records group held by the University Archives and entitled University of North Carolina Papers; it includes most of the extant records of the University from its founding to 1930. The records of the Chapel Hill campus administrative heads following Graham are organized as the Records of the Office of the Chancellor in the University Archives. The files in this group are arranged in functional divisions that reflect later organizational developments. This scheme is consistent with that used for most other records groups in the University Archives. A complete inventory of the files is provided on the following pages.
