The University Advisory Council was created to improve communication between the President of the Consolidated University and the faculties of the constituent campuses. Its organizational meeting occurred in Chapel Hill on February 4, 1969. The Council consisted of the Chancellors and the faculty Advisory Committees of each campus; it annually elected a Chairman, Vice Chairman, and Secretary as well as an Executive Committee. The Council acted in an advisory capacity to the Consolidated President and Board of Trustees and expressed faculty attitudes on matters of University-wide policy, such as disruption and dormitory visitation. With the restructuring of the University in 1972, the Council was reconstituted as the Faculty Assembly in June 1972.
The records of the Council consist of meeting agendas and minutes, Charter and Bylaws, policy memoranda and resolutions, and correspondence. The arrangement is as follows:
