     The Gifts and Exchanges Section of the Acquisitions
Department is responsible for processing library acquisitions
received by means other than purchase--by gift or by exchange
agreement with another library or publishing agency.

     The Records of the Gifts and Exchanges Section consist of
gift acknowledgments and reports, and exchange reports and
correspondence. The arrangement is as follows:

SERIES 1: GIFT RECEIPT RECORDS

     This series consists mainly of receipt forms along with some
reports of gifts received by fiscal year. While the arrangement
of the series is chronological, the receipts for each time period
are arranged alphabetically by donor's last name.

SERIES 2: EXCHANGES RECORDS

This series is arranged in three subseries, as follows:

     SUBSERIES 1: REPORTS OF EXCHANGE ACTIVITY
     SUBSERIES 2: EXCHANGE AGREEMENTS WITH DOMESTIC AGENCIES
                    (arranged by state)
     SUBSERIES 3: EXCHANGE AGREEMENTS WITH FOREIGN AGENCIES
                    (arranged by country)
