Its activities are directed toward maintaining a campus environment that is functional, attractive, safe, and in keeping with the University's standards in the academic world. The Physical Plant is part of the University's Division of Business and Finance; its Director reports to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Facilities Management. Specific responsibilities of the Physical Plant include the following: Building maintenance and repair Construction and renovations (other than capital improvements) Design and estimate services Grounds maintenance Housekeeping and related services Mechanical and electrical systems maintenance Telecommunications operations University mail and messenger services Utilities operations and expansions Waste reduction and recycling services The Physical Plant maintains an inventory of all land and buildings owned by the university as well as physical facilities equipment, such as heating and air conditioning equipment and hot water heaters. The Physical Plant also provides support for campus activities, such as, Commencement and University Day. The archival records of the Physical Plant consist largely of blueprints relating to various construction projects. In addition, there are scattered administrative files.
