     This archival group contains the official records of Blyden
Jackson as Associate Dean/Special Assistant to the Dean of the
Graduate School, 1973-1981.  The records reflect his duties and
responsibilities in the position, especially as they relate to
minority affairs on the campus of the University of North
Carolina at Chapel Hill.  The Associate Dean/Special Assistant
had responsibility for the recruitment and retention of minority
graduate students, and he worked with the financial aid office of
the University on fellowships and scholarships for graduate
students.  Jackson had the title of Associate Dean from 1973 to
1977 and Special Assistant to the Dean from 1977 until his
retirement on June 30, 1981.  Below is an inventory of the group.
