Biochemistry was organized as a separate department in 1935. Prior to that time courses in Biological Chemistry were taught in the Department of Physiology and Biochemistry. The name of the department was changed in 1943 to Department of Biochemistry and Nutrition but that full name was not generally used until 1973.
