                           April 1992

     The Beta Chapter of Alpha Epsilon Delta, the national
pre-medical fraternity, was established at the University of
North Carolina at Chapel Hill on March 30, 1936.  The Chapter's
goals were to foster the scholastic and social life of
prospective medical students.  While the Chapter organized
lectures and seminars throughout the academic year, the major
event was the annual new members' banquet.

     This group of records consists of historical materials
collected by and recollections of Dr. Joseph F. Patterson, who
served as Chapter President in 1937.  The historical materials
include clippings, photographs and lists of members, 1936-1939. 
The recollections are a typescript of Patterson's talk at the new
members' banquet in November 1969.
