Series 1. Office of the Chancellor, 1966-1972.
This series consists of the chancellor's correspondence with faculty, students, alumni, trustees, friends of the university, and members of the staff of the Consolidated University of North Carolina about university matters that do not relate directly to any of the administrative divisions of the university.

Series 2. Academic Affairs, 1966-1972.
Included in this series are files on the departments, schools, and other programs that made up the Division of Academic Affairs during Chancellor Sitterson's administration.

Series 3. Administration, 1966-1972.
This series contains the chancellor's files related to the work of the Personnel Department and of the offices responsible for admissions, student records, student aid, and scholarships. In 1969 the Office of Registrar and Director of Institutional Research was created and given oversight of the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, the Office of Records and Registration, and the Student Aid Office.

This series contains the chancellor's files on the University Development Program, the Alumni Association, the Extension Division, the University News Bureau, the Morehead Planetarium, and the Office of Research Administration. Under Research Administration are files on foundations and philanthropic agencies supporting research at the university.

This series contains the chancellor's files on the standing and special committees of the Faculty Council.

This series includes the chancellor's files related to the programs of the Graduate School.

Series 9. Health Affairs, 1966-1972.
This series contains the chancellor's files relating to programs in the Division of Health Sciences. On 1 July 1970, the name of this division changed from Health Affairs to Health Sciences. On 1 January 1977, it reverted to Health Affairs.

Series 10. Student Affairs, 1966-1971.
This series contains the chancellor's correspondence with the dean of student affairs, later vice chancellor for student affairs, as well as with the administrators responsible to the dean. Included also are files on campus Student Government and other student organizations and activities.

Series 11. Trustee Affairs, 1966-1971.
This series includes the chancellor's correspondence with and related to the university's Board of Trustees. Also included here are the chancellor's files on the committees of the Board of Trustees. Minutes and reports of the board will be found in the Records of the Board of Trustees, a separate records group in the University Archives.

Files in this series pertain to agencies and organizations outside the university with which the university had relationships. Many are organizations of which the university is, or was, a member. See also files on various philanthropic organizations and foundations in Series 6.

Series 13. Restricted Items, 1966-1971.
Items in this series are CLOSED to researchers for 75 years from the date of creation because they contain information on individual applicants that is protected under the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
