Abstract While retaining his position as professor in the Department of English, Blyden Jackson served from 1973 to 1977 as Associate Dean of the Graduate School and from 1977 to 1981 as Special Assistant to the Dean of the Graduate School. Although his title changed, his duties remained essentially the same; they were to promote the recruitment and retention of minority graduate students and to work with the university's Student Aid Office to secure scholarships and fellowships for graduate students. Records include correspondence and other files relating to Blyden Jackson's work recruiting minority graduates, securing financial support for graduate students, and performing his other duties as Associate Dean/Special Assistant to the Dean of the Graduate School.
