• Student Government Records (#40169)

The Elections Board was organized under the Student Government constitution of 1940, as approved on 20 April 1940. Later, its name changed to Board of Elections. The board was empowered to supervise the administration of campus elections and was required to certify the accuracy of election results. Among the board's responsibilities are the recognition of student political parties, the certification of candidate eligibility, the printing and distribution of ballots, the selection of polling places and personnel, ballot counting, and the certification of election results.

Records of the Board of Elections include election laws and related correspondence, election return reports, and protested election cases. The Addition of May 2012 contains additional materials documenting the student elections process, including general elections in the spring, Homecoming elections in the fall, and special elections at various times of year. The records include administrative materials; conference materials; publicity; candidate materials, including petitions for candidacy, financial statements, and election results; elections conduct documentation, including written statements, evidentiary documentation, and punitive decisions; elections legislation, policies, and guidelines; and other records.
