Abstract The Graduate History Society was organized as the Graduate History Club in 1952. Membership was open to all History Department graduate students and faculty members. The stated purpose was "to stimulate intellectual and social fellowship among history students at the university and to build up an esprit de corps that shall bind them together in their professional careers." Activities of the society included discussions of student concerns, guest lectures, seminars, picnics, and student-faculty teas. Records of the Graduate History Society include financial information, membership lists, correspondence with potential lecturers, scattered minutes of society meetings, and material on the society's activities.
