The University of North Carolina chapter of the history honor society, Phi Alpha Theta, was chartered in December 1952. Faculty members, graduate students, and undergraduate history majors who met the grade average requirement were members. Guest lecturers, panel discussions, and social activities were featured at monthly meetings.

Records, 1955-1957, of the Delta Pi Chapter of Phi Alpha Theta at the University of North Carolina include the chapter's charter, bylaws, membership and initiation records, meeting schedules, bank statements, and correspondence with the national organization.
