Its mission has been to champion the interests and concerns of students at the campuses of the university system and to serve as liaison between the students and state government. Records consist mainly of minutes of meetings of the University of North Carolina Association of Student Governments, 2001-2010. Also included are constitutions and bylaws dating from the mid-1980s to 1999, correspondence, materials related to award ceremonies and dinners, and files related to issues of concern to the association. |

Established in 1972, the University of North Carolina Association of Student Governments was founded and funded by students of the University of North Carolina system. Its mission has been to champion the interests and concerns of students at the campuses of the university system and to serve as liaison between the students and state government. Comprised of delegates from the system's 17 campuses, the association has worked to ensure quality, affordable education for all its students, and to maintain an atmosphere conducive to academic freedom.
