PRESIDENT'S OFFICE (pre-1932) RECORD GROUPS
Before the establishment of the Consolidated University of North Carolina system in 1932, the chief administrative officer of the campus at Chapel Hill had the title President. In 1932, the head of the Consolidated system was designated President, and new titles, along with more narrowly defined responsibilities, were assigned to the chief administrative officers of the constituent campuses.
The majority of the surviving records of the University Presidents from 1794 to 1930 are in a large group of chronologically arranged records known as University Papers, which also include some of the 18th and 19th-century records of the Secretary-Treasurer of the Board of Trustees. The records of Frank Porter Graham as President of the Chapel Hill campus from 1930 to 1932 are arranged as a separate group.
For records of the system Presidents, see University of North Carolina (System).
