Carrel Policies
Music Deparment graduate students may check out
books or scores to their carrel in the Music Library.
PLEASE NOTE: The presence of uncharged material or material
charged to the individual on a carrel may result in revocation of
carrel privileges.
Assignments
Carrel assignments are made at the beginning
of each fall semester. Please see the Circulation Supervisor in the
Music Library to obtain a carrel. The carrel function will be added to the
graduate students' UNC One Cards at this time.
Procedures
Items are checked out to carrels using the carrel function on a
borrower's UNC One Card; a pink carrel card, noting the carrel number,
must also be completed for each item.
Items are due on August 30th each year. All items checked out
to Music Library carrels are considered in
its stacks; anyone wishing to borrow an item checked out
to a carrel may do so for three days. The item
will then be returned to the original carrel.
There is no renewal or grace period on this three-day
check out.
If carrel holders wish to check an item out
from their own carrel to take home, they must
check out the item as a regular charge or as a three-day charge.
If the item is to be checked out as a regular charge, the loan
period will be the normal 90 days. However, the item then
becomes subject to recall. If the carrel holder then
wishes to return the item to the carrel, it
must be checked in from the borrower's UNC One Card and
checked out again to the carrel portion of the borrower's card.
Items may not be simultaneously checked out both to
home as a regular check out and to a carrel.
Items that may NOT be checked out to a carrel
include: periodicals; books shelved in the Reference
Room; recordings; items stamped with PERMANENT
RESERVE, including M2s, M3s; and UNC-Chapel Hill Music Theses
and Dissertations.
Checking Out Items to a Carrel
In order to check out carrel items, carrel
holders must present their UNC One Card and specify
that the item should be checked out to their
carrel. Just before the beginning
of the school year (by August 30th), carrel holders
will be requested to return or renew the items
checked out to their carrels. It is the
responsibility of the carrel holders to renew
all items by AUGUST 30th. All items which have not been
returned or renewed by that date will be cleared
from the carrels by library staff.
