Music Education Resources in the UNC Music Library

The UNC-Chapel Hill Music library has a substantial collection of music education resources. Keep in mind that not all materials are in the online catalog, so if you don’t find what you want there, be sure to check the card catalog as well. This handout guides you to only some of the many resources available in the Music Library. If you need further help please ask a staff member.

* Browsing Areas

Because books and printed music are classified -- that is, grouped with similar items on the shelf -- browsing can be an effcetive method for finding what you want. Below is a partial list of areas in the Library of Congress classification scheme relevant to music education.

The UNC-Chapel Hill music library attempts to acquire all MENC publications. To locate these items in the online catalog, perform a KEYWORD search on MENC. Also look at MENCs web site.

In addition to following the LC call numbers listed above under browsing, you can find music for children’s songs searching by title in the in-house Song Index located in the card file near the entrance to the Video Viewing Room. Also here are shelves of published song indexes that complement the card files. Indexes of particular use are:
