North Carolina | Items selected for digitization were taken from the North Carolina Collection
College Ephemera Collection. The North Carolina Collection collects ephemera from
164 scholarly institutions in North Carolina. For this site, defunct colleges
are defined as collegiate institutions which have ceased to function in any academic
role. We identified nine institutions which fit this criteria and selected items
from those collections for digitization. Only defunct institutions whose ephemera
physically resides in the North Carolina Collection are included in this site.
The site is organized alphabetically and information will be added as we receive it. Each section contains a historical sketch of the institution, digitized ephemera, and sources for further research. This site was designed and produced in 2006 and 2007 by Jennifer Townes, a research assistant in the North Carolina Collection, with the help of Jill Wagy, Reference Assistant and Office Manager. Eileen McGrath, Assistant Curator of the North Carolina Collection, Jason Tomberlin, Special Projects Librarian, and Nick Graham, Head of Public Services, generously lent their support and knowledge. We would like to especially acknowledge James LaMee, Reference Librarian at Belmont Abbey College, for his help researching Sacred Heart College. All but one of the specimens digitized herein are available in the North Carolina Collection College Ephemera Collection. The collection is searchable through the University Libraries home page, at the Local/Dewey call number VC378.9 M67. The Pansy of Littleton College is from the North Carolina Collection, call number C378 L77p 1905.
