Collection Description: A collection of black-and-white photographs made approximately between October 1941 and May 1942 in the vicinity of present Camp Butner, a U.S. Military facility constructed in Granville and Durham Counties, North Carolina during World War II. The images document the rural communities and residents displaced by construction of the camp. The collection includes a few early construction scenes at the camp but most of the images are of homes, farmlands, farm buildings, and residents. Many of the photographs were published in 1992 in Voices from the Field: A Pictorial History of Camp Butner by Eddie L. Smith and Benjamin Patrick (NCC call no. C970 B98s).
