Collection Description: This is an artificial collection of photographs and printed material that documents the celebration of the 400th anniversary of the late sixteenth century English voyages to Roanoke Island, North Carolina. The subject matter includes people, structures, and events. Within the collection are photographs of dignitaries including Sam Ragan, James B. Hunt Jr., James Martin, and Princess Anne. Photographs document events at the Fort Raleigh and Elizabeth II State Historic Sites in Dare County, North Carolina as well as a ceremony in Plymouth, England. Most items date from 1987.
Most of the 35mm color slides bear the stamp, "Thomas L. Norris, Jr. 2700 Shelley Road, Raleigh, N. C. 27612." One transparency is a commercially published slide of Sherborne Castle marked "ELFINCOLOR ORIGINAL." Eight slides are not stamped.
Two separate folders separate those photographs made in England from those made in North Carolina.
