| Abstract | In the summer of 1930, Lillian Alexander Burch was a student who participated in a study tour to the west coast of the United States sponsored by the Extension Division of the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C., 7 June-2 August 1930. Burch made the photographs in this collection and collected postcards as the tour moved across the country. The collection contains 154 prints and postcards created or collected by Lillian Alexander Burch on her 1930 study trip. The images show popular tourist sites as well as views of tour participants. The group camped for part of the trip and some of the photographs include camp scenes. Photographs made at the Hal Roach Studio in California include Oliver Hardy and Charley Chase. Most of the images are mounted in an album with captions that was put together by Burch. The collection also includes a small number of papers related to the trip. |
