Most of the images in the Photographic Archives are gifts to the Collection from persons who share an appreciation for the value of historical photographs as well as an interest in their preservation. All donated photographs, whether one or a thousand, contribute to the visual record of North Carolina's past. The North Carolina Collection encourages persons with private collections of historical photographs to contact the department's Photographic Archivist.
