Sanborn Insurance Company
Maps for North Carolina
The North Carolina Collection
has extensive holdings of maps produced by the Sanborn Map Company of
Pelham, New York, providing detailed information on the layout and construction
of public and private buildings in cities and towns across the state.
The North Carolina Maps project is digitizing pre-1923 holdings of the North Carolina Collection's Sanborn maps. (See link below for access.) Black and white images of Sanborn
maps are available on microfilm (Call Numbers: Microfilm C912 F523s and Microfilm C912 S19) in the North Carolina Collection and through a subscription database available on NC LIVE. Access to original maps is restricted to researchers who have
already examined the microfilm or the online materials, located the map(s)
that they need, and determined that they need to see the originals.
