The University held a formal reopening celebration, though the actual opening day was Monday, September 6, 1875. University historian Kemp Plummer Battle proclaimed "FRANCIS DONNELL WINSTON [as] the Hinton James of 1875" (the first student to arrive at the reopening of the University).Top |
