William D. Carmichael, Jr. was born in Durham. A 1921 graduate of the University, Carmichael returned in 1940 to serve as finance officer for the Consolidated University of North Carolina. Later, he became vice-president of the Consolidated University and even served as acting-president in 1949-1950. Carmichael Auditorium is named for him.Top |
