Standard Oil Trust executive and Florida developer Henry M. Flagler married Mary Lily Kenan at her ancestral home, Liberty Hall, in Kenansville, North Carolina. Flagler died in 1913, and the bulk of his estate was left to his widow. After her death in 1917, the fortune would become the basis of the Kenan Professorship Fund.Top |
