Well-known critic and columnist H.L. Mencken visited Chapel Hill as the guest of President Harry W. Chase and Prof. Archibald Henderson. Mencken did not speak to an audience, but did attend the UNC-Duke football game, where he occupied a "seat of honor" on the Carolina bench and was cheered by the crowd.
