Other Resources Available in the North Carolina Collection

Photographs

The North Carolina Collection Photographic Archives contains over a half-million images documenting people, places, and events in North Carolina.

Maps

The North Carolina Collection has an extensive collection of maps ranging from 18th-century coastal maps to current county and road maps. To search for maps using the library's online catalog, select a "subject" search and enter the name of the area you are searching for, followed by "maps." For example, North Carolina -- Maps, or Chowan County (N.C.) -- Maps. Researchers may also want to visit North Carolina Maps, a comprehensive, online collection of historic maps of the Tar Heel State.

Newspapers

The North Carolina Collection has a large collection of newspapers from across the state. Nearly all of these are available on microfilm for use in the NCC reading room. To search the library's holdings using the online catalog, select a "subject" search and enter the name of the area you are searching for, followed by "newspapers." For example, Greensboro (N.C.) -- Newspapers or Guilford County (N.C.) -- Newspapers. While there are very few indexes to North Carolina newspapers, the North Carolina Collection newspaper clippings can be helpful in finding articles.
