Borrowing Privileges
All UNC-Chapel Hill students, faculty, and staff must use their UNC One Card as a library card. For all other patrons, library borrower's cards are available at the Davis Circulation Desk during all hours of operations. Card fees for qualified borrowers are $25 per year and $5 to replace lost cards.
Faculty members, currently enrolled students, administration officials, and staff members of TRLN member institutions and other UNC System institutions may use their Campus ID Card to borrow books from the UNC Library. Patrons must first have their local institution's cards activated at the Davis Library Circulation Desk before books can be checked out from the Planning Library.

Reserve Policies
The Planning Library holds all reserve readings for Department of City and Regional Planning classes. To check items out, bring your library card to the library and look up your class by number in the red notebook by the front desk. Reserves are held behind the desk and will be retrieved for you by library staff. Notebooks and folders of required readings are arranged by class, and books on reserve are arranged by call number.
Reserve items may be checked out for two hours, and you may take them out of the building. If you check out a reserve item within two hours of the library's closing time, we will check it out to you until one hour after the next opening. For instance, if you check out a reserve item after 6pm Sunday through Thursday, it will be due at 9am the following day. If you check out an item after 3pm on Friday, you may keep it until 2pm Sunday. Keep an eye on the time written on the date due slip, as late charges accumulate at $1.00 per hour per item on reserve materials.
Overdue and Replacement Fines
Library patrons are expected to return or renew items by the due date that is stamped on the date due slip at the time of checkout. The Library sends overdue notices as a courtesy; if a notice is not received or is received late, patrons are still responsible for returning material or paying overdue fines.
For books and journals, fines accrue at $0.50 per day, up to a maximum of $15.00. Fines are waved if the item is returned within the grace period (13 days for faculty, 3 days for others). For reserve items, fines accrue at $1.00 per hour up to a maximum of $25.00.
If an item is not returned within 42 days past due, it is declared lost and the patron will be charged a replacement fee of $125.00. If a lost item is later returned, the replacement fee may be refunded and replaced with a $15.00 maximum overdue fine.
Renewals
Items that are not on hold for another patron or on reserve may be renewed through the My Library page.
Recalls and Holds
A hold or personal reserve may be placed on items which are checked out from the Planning Library. All circulating materials are subject to recall after the initial two weeks of use or immediately if needed for library reserve. These materials are held at the circulation desk upon their return and the requestor is notified. You may use this online form to recall a book that is currently checked out of the Planning Library.
Soul City Collection
Material in the Soul City Collection does not circulate and must be used in the Library.
