If you need to look at census data, land use patterns, or other geographical sources, you may want to look into using Geographic Information Systems, or GIS.
Davis Library has great resources for students who need to use GIS in their research. Their hardware and software are available whenever the
Davis Reference Department is
open.
Go to the
GIS at Davis Library webpage for more information.
The GIS Datafinder allows patrons to browse sets of spatial data for different themes, locations, and layers, and can be a useful resource for Planning students.
For more help, contact the GIS Librarian, Amanda Henley. She assists University and walk-in patrons in locating, acquiring, formatting and projecting spatial data. Please call or email to make an appointment: amanda.henley@unc.edu, Davis Library Reference: 962-1151.
