Preservation Services addresses the care of general collections in Davis Library and departmental libraries across the campus. Special Collections in Wilson Library often require treatment by staff with specialized skills and expertise. For example, rare books and documents requiring conservation are treated by our professional conservator in Wilson Library’s Conservation Laboratory. Studios in the Manuscripts Department are devoted to preserving deteriorated sound recordings and videotapes. Preservation of photographs is the speciality of an archivist on the staff of the North Carolina Collection. Together, Preservation Services and these Special Collections departments comprise a comprehensive preservation program for the Academic Affairs Library. Questions concerning any part of the program may be addressed to Andrew Hart, the Preservation Librarian.
