Selected Resources for Research in U.S. Employment and Un-Employment Statistics

Electronic Resources Description
American Factfinder From the U.S. Bureau of the Census. Source for all census data including employment. By clicking on Fact Sheet one can then enter the name or zip code of a community or choose a state to retrieve the census data for that area. This enables the user to get employment data down to the community level. More comprehensive data sets also available.
LINC Log Into North Carolina provides access to a wide range of statistics pertaining to the state, including local employment and unemployment numbers.
Local Area Unemployment Statistics From the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Monthly estimates of total employment and unemployment prepared for about 6,800 areas.
Monthly Labor Review A publication of the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Select "Current Labor Statistics" for access to Employment and Unemployment. See MLR: The Editors Desk for a wide range of economic news and information. The Monthly Labor Review is also available in print at the following location:

National Current Employment Statistics From the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. A monthly survey conducted by State employment security agencies in cooperation with the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The survey provides employment, hours and earnings estimates based on payroll records of business establishments.
Statistical Abstract of the United States Check index for "Labor force, employment and earnings." The numbers given refer to tables, not pages. Useful for historical data. Will not provide data for current or previous year. This resource is also a part of LexisNexis Statistical. The most recent print edition is also available at the location below:
