The first screen that comes up is a simple search for news, company information or a legal citation. One can switch to an expanded search by using the tabs or go to the different modules described below. The modules are listed to the left of the screen.

Business and Company Resource Center

Business & Company Resource Center brings together in a single database company profiles, company brand information, rankings, investment reports, company histories, chronologies, full-text articles, investment reports, industry overviews, and financial and trade association data. Enter the name of a company and then select from the list that appears on the screen. Now use the tab bar to choose from:


OCLC FirstSearch

is an interactive online information system that provides access, via this library catalog, to 30 databases. The business databases offered by Davis Library include:



Dow Jones Interactive

Special instructions: When finished, please exit Dow Jones Interactive by clicking on the "EXIT" button in the upper left-hand corner of the screen. Please note that only five users may access this resource simultaneously.

Description: Dow Jones Interactive is a one-stop source for full-text news, general business and industry articles as well as information on companies and industries. DJI provides front-page headlines from top newspapers and cover stories from top business magazines. Specifically, the Academic License for DJI provides:

Business Newsstand, front-page headlines from top newspapers -- including The Wall Street Journal and the New York Times -- and cover stories from top business magazines - including Barron's, Forbes, Fortune and SmartMoney.

Publications Library, a searchable archive of articles from more than 6,000 of the world's most authoritative business publications, including the full text of the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, and the Financial Times (available day of publication and archived as far back as 1969).

The Company and Industry Center, in-depth business intelligence on most major companies. Includes Financial Snapshot and Profile, Company Screening Reports, Company/Industry Comparison Reports, SEC Filings. Not included for academic use are the Country Reports and the Market Research Reports. (The Economist Intelligence Unit Country Profiles and Reports are available on CD-Rom in Davis Reference.)

Web Center is an extensive, searchable subject guide to reviewed business resources on the Internet.

ReferenceUSA Business

ReferenceUSA Business provides detailed directory information on over 12 million U.S. businesses. It offers a number of different search points, including company name, yellow page headings, SIC codes, executive names, sales volume, number of employees, and stock exchange ticker symbols. It also provides full corporate linkage and family tree information, mapping capability, Fortune 1000 rankings, and links to company Web sites. (Source: Vendor's publicity)

STAT-USA

STAT-USA is a comprehensive collection of business, economic, and trade information available on the World Wide Web. STAT-USA includes information gathered from more than fifty Federal agencies, files from the National Trade Data Bank (NTDB), the Economic Bulletin Board, and hundreds of other U.S. economic and business files. It is a very current source of economic information, such as exchange rates from "Daily Economic News" and articles from the Survey of Current Business. STAT-USA is a service provided by the U.S. Department of Commerce, Economics and Statistics Administration.

LexisNexis Statistical

Statistical Universe is a web-based service that provides indexing and abstracts from the American Statistics Index (ASI) Statistical Reference Index (SRI), and Index to International Statistics (IIS). The databases can be searched individually or as a group. This is a service of Congressional Information Service.
The American Statistics Index (1973-present) covers statistical publications issued by the U.S. government. Full-text of selected publications are included from 1995; links to internet versions of publications are also included.
The StatisticalReference Index (1980-present) covers publications from trade, professional and other nonprofit associations and institutes, business organizations, commercial publishers, independent research organizations, state government agencies and universities and affiliated research centers.
The Index to International Statistics (1983-present) covers English language statistical publications of 100 major international intergovernmental organizations.
Full-text of most items indexed in these databases are available in print in Davis Library or in print or microfiche in the Davis Library Reference Department.

TableBase

Special instructions: When finished, please exit TableBase by clicking on the "Logout" button at the top of the screen. Please note that only two users may access this resource simultaneously.
TableBase provides summary statistics about companies, industries, products, markets, and consumer behavior, including rankings, forecasts, market shares, and product sales. It includes summarized statistical tables from hundreds of business periodicals as well as statistical yearbooks, market research reports, trade association publications, and investment analyst reports.
