The NBER-CES Manufacturing Industry Database (1958-1996)
This database is a joint effort between the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) and U.S. Census Bureau's Center for Economic Studies (CES), containing annual industry-level data on output, employment, payroll and other input costs, investment, capital stocks, TFP, and various industry-specific price indexes. The database covers all 4-digit manufacturing industries from 1958-1996, in two versions: 1987 SIC codes (459 industries) and 1972 SIC codes (448 industries). Entries include: Production workers in 1000s, Total cost of materials in $1,000,000, Total value of shipments in $1,000,000. Material available for Excel, SAS, Stata and text.
U.S. Industry Sector Statistics
Tables are available for each 3, 4, 5 and 6 digit NAICS manufacturing code. The tables have 1997 through 2001 data for industry and product shipments, total employment, number of production workers, and capital expenditures. Import and export data derived from the merchandise trade statistics for 1997 through 2002 are also provided. Non downloadable tables.
