Particularly useful for price information for both consumers and producers. Also publishes data on import/export prices. See links under "Inflation & Consumer Spending.
CIA World FactBook
For any country selected, the “Economy” section provides a number of energy statistics primarily dealing with consumption, production, import and export of coal, natural gas, electricity and the like. Clicking on the icons (if provided) next to these statistics takes researchers to country rankings of the index selected. Alphabetical listings of all countries and their values for a particular indicator are also an option. The site uses the most current statistics available
Energy Information Administration
A virtual warehouse of energy statistics. Offers an extensive range of statistics and data in a variety of formats. Some of the more notable publications here include:

Office of Surface Mining - Statistics
Find coal production by state from 1978 to the present. Data on both abandoned and active mines is also available
Petroleum - Minerals Management Service - U.S. Dept. of the Interior
Provides a wide range of information on U.S. offshore oil drilling and production. Get information on individual platforms as well as assessments of offshore fields
Securities Exchange Commission
Use the S.E.C.'s database to find current filings regarding a company's financial health and operations. Annual reports (form 10-K) are a good starting point
State Oil & Gas Links
Useful for finding state regulatory agencies that oversee petroleum production and usage. This site links to both Canadian and U.S. sources. Not every state publishes data on petroleum and the range of information varies from state to state
U.S. Bureau of Reclamation
Access reports and data regarding hydroelectric power generation. Some information goes back to 1994 and common kinds of data include capacity statistics for each plant and each state, operations and management costs of individual plants, and the like
U.S. Census Bureau
Resources of primary importance for the energy researcher include the Statistical Abstract of the United States and the Economic Census Industry Reports. Click on "Publications" to find the Statistical Abstract and click "Economic Census" to get to the Industry Reports
U.S. Department of Energy
Access links to the Energy Information Administration, the Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy program, and many others
United States Geological Survey (U.S.G.S.)
Useful for finding resource assessments, particularly for coal and petroleum.
