CoWorks Corporation

Encyclopedia of World Economies
DRI/McGraw Hill

Provides financial, economic, labor and currency information for 84 nations. Includes up to 150 tables of economic facts and 20 years of data for each country.

The criteria for including a country in this edition are:

  1. extent of participation in the world economy,
  2. size of the local economy.
  3. availability of timely national source data (although some countries are included because of the size of the economy even though timely data were not available.

The data is collected from national sources, primarily central banks and central statistical agencies, and is supplemented by reports from McGraw Hill local representatives and from Planecon economists in Eastern Europe. Specific data includes: population, prices, labor and earnings, production and sales, interest rates and yields, monetary aggregates, foreign exchange, mercantile trade, balance of payments and national accounts.

For each country three brief profiles are provided. The "Country Overview" reports population, area, religion and language. The "Economic Overview" gives a snapshot of GDP, GDP/capita, labor force, industry and currency. The "Trade Overview" lists imports, exports, leading trading partners in both directions and current account balances.

Searching is uncomplicated via a simple hierarchical arrangement.
