File Transfer Protocol (FTP) Helpsheets

Saving Your Files

  1. Open Folder -- Internet (On CD-ROM stations, Open Folder -- Utilities)
  2. Select Ws_FTP
  3. Select the Profile Name--(the location of the computer that you want to send the files to)...example ISIS
  4. Person will need to login with their username and password
  5. Once you successfully connect to the computer that you want to ftp to:
  6. You will see a screen with two (2) sides:

    On the right side is the computer that you want to send your files to:
    Select the directory that you want to send your files to (examples for Web Pages on ISIS, you probably want to select public_html or mail)

    On the left side of the screen, select the directory where you stored your files on the workstation.

    Generally, we ask that you store files on the D: drive or on the floppy drive, A:

  7. Go to change directory and select the drive where your files to ftp are stored, for example D: or A:

    Highlight the files to be transferred and click the right arrow button. The files will then be transferred to whatever computer and directory you selected.


Hint:
When transferring images (.jpg or gif), select Binary Mode

When transferring text or html pages, select ASCII Mode
