Optical Character Recognition: Scanning Non-standard Size Pages and Large Items

Instructions

Fujitsu scanner and loose-leaf pages Flash Video Demo
OCR Scan to editable text with OmniPage
  (02:57)

If you are scanning an item with non-standard sized pages, there are a few steps necessary before you begin to scan in OmniPage Pro, the OCR program.

1. Reduce the page size of your item to standard size (8 ½" x 11") . This is often most easily and quickly done by using a photocopier. Or, if you are comfortable using Photoshop, scanning your oversize item on the UMAX, reducing its actual size in Photoshop to fit on standard-size paper, and printing it, is another option.

2. Create a PDF of your item using the Fujitsu, following the instructions on page 55.

3. Open OmniPage Pro 14.

4. Leave the 1-2-3 pull-down menu set at 1-2-3.

5. Under Menu 1, change to Load Image File.

6. Place item in the page feeder.

7. Click the 1 button above Menu 1.

8. Under Menu 2, set menu to type of page layout.

9. Click the 2 button above Menu 2.

10. OCR Proofreader window appears and performs spell check. Click Document Ready when finished.

11. Set Menu 3 to Save to File. Save As: Text and select file type.
