Saving Your Files
Self-service scanning is available in the Davis Library Reference Department. 4 stations are available to all, and 5 are reserved for UNC-Chapel Hill students, faculty, and staff.
At these stations, shown on the map below, you can scan images and documents or scan to text using optical character recognition (OCR) software. All have CD-RW drives for CD or DVD burning. Users agree to Scanner Policies when using these stations.

Hardware
- 8 PCs
- 1 Mac G5
- 1 UMAX PowerLook 2100XL flatbed scanner, with slide and film scanning accessories
- 2 Fujitsu fi-4220C flatbed scanners, with page feeders
- 1 Epson E1680-Pro flatbed scanner
- 5 Fujitsu fi-5220C flatbed scanners, with page feeders
All printing from scanning stations is black and white. Print jobs go to nearest printer in the Reference area. Color printing is available in the R.B. House Undergraduate Library in the Information Commons. All computers on the main floor have the option of printing to the color printer.
Software

OmniPage Professional v. 9.0
This OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software scans documents and reproduces plain text. The resulting text can then be saved as a .txt file or in Word. -
Photoshop CS (on the PCs) or v. 7.0 (on the Mac)
Assistance
Reference Staff members are on hand to answer basic questions and advise during regular Reference Desk hours. Feel free to call the Reference Desk at 962-1151 to make an appointment with a librarian, if you have special needs and would like a consultation. Please note that scanning stations are self-service. While staff can provide help and introductory training, staff is not able to complete scanning work for you.

Reservations are no longer necessary to use scanners, and scanning
stations are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Sign-up sheets are available if you would like to reserve a time (2
hours/day/person, if others are waiting). You may also call the
Reference Department, Davis Library, at 962-1151, or e-mail Reference Staff at
reference@unc.edu, to make a reservation.

SILS Library and Computer Classroom, Room 117
Outer lab area has 8 PCs and 1 HP ScanJet 8200 USB Scanner. Computer classroom features 32 PCs, 6 HP ScanJet 8200 USB Scanners,
6 HP 5470 CSE Scanners, and 1 HP ScanJet 8250 for larger scan needs, all with OCR software installed. There are also 10 Quickcam
Pro 3000 webcams for video conferencing and local video capture.
