Which scanner should I use?

Scanning Station 1
Consider the UMAX if you are working with detailed, fragile, large,
or non-standard sized items.
UMAX scanner

Ideal for:
  • Fragile documents
  • High-resolution graphics and photos
  • Detailed artwork
  • Large items (maps)
  • Scanning more than one item at once



Scanning Stations 2 & 3
Users in a hurry should use the Fujitsu with its quick and easy feeder.

Ideal for:
  • Quick scans on the go
  • Stacks of standard-size pages
  • Digitizing personal photos
  • Optical character recognition (OCR)



Scanning Station 4
Design-savvy users and graphic arts types who need access
to a Mac with a scanner should use the Epson E1680-Pro.

Ideal for:
  • Web graphics work
  • Single-page graphics
  • Artwork

The Mac is not recommended for quick scans, if you are not a frequent Mac user.


Scanning Stations 5 through 9
Reserved for UNC patrons, these Fujitsu scanners have
feeders and are just as quick and convenient as Stations 2 & 3.

  • Quick scans on the go
  • Stacks of standard-size pages
  • Digitizing personal photos
  • Optical character recognition (OCR)



Reservations are no longer necessary to use the scanners, and scanning stations are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Sign-up sheets are available if you would like to reserve a time (2 hours/day/person, if others are waiting). You may also call the Reference Department, Davis Library, at 962-1151, to make a reservation.
