Historic landmarks are established in the Unified Development Ordinance for the purposes of protecting historic resources. Landmarks are designated by the governing boards. Upon designation of an historic landmark, any exterior building change requires review by the Durham Historic Preservation Commission and the issuance of a Certificate of Appropriateness (COA). The Commission can approve a COA indicating that the proposed change is in keeping with the historic character of the landmark. The data set displays designated historic landmarks in the City and County. See Section 4.10 of the Unified Development Ordinance for more information. |
