Please Join us for GIS Day 2009!
WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 18...DAVIS LIBRARY...ROOM 214
1:00 - 1:30: Presentation, DAVIS LIBRARY 214
Preserving North Carolina’s Vanishing Geospatial Data
Presented by: Alec Bethune and Jon Breece
Description:
What happens to important GIS datasets like imagery, parcels and hydrography once
they are superseded by updates or new copies? How do I make my GIS research results
"preservation ready" so people can access and use them in the future?
The North Carolina Center for Geographic Information and Analysis is partnering
with North Carolina State Archives and the states of Kentucky and Utah to investigate the challenges
of preserving geospatial spatial data under the auspices of the Library of Congress’
sponsored GeoMAPP program.
Please join Alec Bethune and Jon Breece from the GeoMAPP team for a talk about
the partnership’s efforts, why metadata is important, and to share your thoughts
about data that is worth preserving for historical or analytical purposes.
1:30 - 2:30: Refreshments, Map Competition and Visit with GIS Professionals
Enjoy some snacks, get your questions answered by GIS Professionals, and participate in our Map Competition!
This event is being sponsored by the University Library, and The Department of Geography.
