  • Collect spatial data from local, state, and federal government sources as well as commercial sources. Search or browse our spatial data collection using the GIS Data Finder or the Library Catalog (limit format to Geospatial Data).

  • Make an appoinment in the calendar below, contact one of our GIS Librarians, Amanda Henley or Phil McDaniel.
  • Lengthy questions regarding GIS methods (How do I...) and general GIS software questions are beyond the scope of the Library's GIS services.
  • Our public GIS computers are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • During busy times, priority is given to academic work or to current affiliates of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
  • When requested, we will create a folder on the hard disk of one of our public GIS computers for patrons to store GIS- related data. This data is not backed up.
  • All files on the public GIS machines that are not located in a GIS patron's folder are subject to deletion.
  • Software and spatial data may be licensed and subject to restrictions on who can use it and how it can be used. We provide GIS users with public domain data and any other data and software that we can under the terms of the licenses.
  • Due to license restrictions, ESRI GIS software (available via North Carolina site license) is for non-commercial uses only.
  • We ask that our patrons honor our license agreements with software and data vendors.
  • The GIS printers are for printing census maps and maps created using GIS only.
  • We no longer offer large format printing. Large format printing options on or near campus: UNC Printing Services Copy Centers | PhD Posters.
