Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Services:
Software and Hardware
Four GIS workstations are located in the Electronic Documents/GIS section of
the Reference Department in Davis Library. These machines are available for
patrons working on GIS/Remote Sensing projects only. The machines are available
when the library is open; printing is available when the Reference Department
is open (hours).

Patrons not affiliated with the University can use the E-Docs U-Install
machine; this computer has ArcGIS installed. Please note that ArcGIS may be used
for non-commercial uses only.
Data Storage Devices
Jump drives and a Zip drive (USB) are available for checkout at the reference desk.
Printers
Please note: printing is only available when the Reference
Department is open. Only maps created using GIS or Census Maps may be
printed from the GIS printers. See our hours and
policies for more information.
Color inkjet printer: Epson Stylus Color 1520, 8.5x11,
8.5x14, or 11x17
Black and white laser printer: HP 4M+, 8.5x11
Plotter: Hewlett Packard Design Jet Plotter 1055 CM, 36"
wide. Only maps created using GIS or Census Maps may be printed
from this printer. There is a charge for using the plotter - please see the
Davis Reference Plotter Policy.
*UNC-Chapel Hill has a site license for
ESRI products via ITS. ITS maintains a GIS
support web site; see their
Software page for details on the products available and how to get them.
