Frequently Asked Questions about IM a LibrarianWill I need to wait to IM with the librarian?IM questions are taken in a first-come-first-served order. On weekend afternoons it may take a bit longer to answer your IM, if desk staff is busy helping patrons in-person at the desk. As an alternative to using our IM service, please feel free to email a librarian, call the Reference Desk at 962-1151, or visit (Directions) for assistance. How do I IM a librarian? Open a new message, enter our buddy name, davisrefdesk, in the To: field, and start typing your message. Or, just add davisrefdesk to your buddy list, double-click on the buddy name to open an IM window, then type your message. I don't use Instant Messenger. How do I get started? Download AIM here. Fill out a quick, easy Web form, choose a screen name, and start using IM in 1-2 minutes. If you prefer to IM from inside your browser, use the Web-based IM service meebo, choose a brand of IM, and click on one of the New User? links. After you fill out a form and choose a screen name, you can also start using IM in 1-2 minutes with this service. Restrictions on your computer, or don't want to download AIM? Log in to your AIM, Google Talk, Yahoo! Messenger, MSN, or Jabber IM using the Web-based IM service meebo. No downloads and no software installations. If you have not used IM before, choose a brand, click on one of the New User? links, and get started. If you do not want to sign up for IM, you can still use our Live Online Help service.
