The UNC Library's Online Catalog The Online Catalog is the tool you use to locate materials in the campus libraries. Right now the catalog is available in two versions. You automatically enter the Web version which has some spiffy features such as allowing you to search multiple Triangle-area catalogs at once, and to link directly to electronic books and other materials. The Telnet Catalog is the older text-only version and can be a lot faster at times when the Web is slow. You can look for a particular book by its author: ibsen henrik You can look for a particular book or journal by its title: dolls house NOTE: When searching for serial (journals, magazines, newspapers) titles it is helpful to limit your search to the Journal/Magazine format. By searching for subject headings: ibsen henrik 1828-1906 characters women By searching for key words: ibsen and women You do not need to use capital letters or punctuation. Authors are entered last name first. In titles do not enter initial articles: a, and, and the, or the equivalent terms in other languages. The Online Catalog will give you the Library of Congress Call Number you need to locate an item in the library. What a library classification does is to arrange materials by subject. You read a call number from left to right, and top to bottom. Once you have your call number, a Materials Location Guide will tell you which floor of the library you need. Sources That Reprint Literary Criticism and Include Reviews These ongoing sets all have a common arrangement, with each covering authors of a particular time period or genre. Some authors will appear in more than one volume of a particular series, or in more than one of the sets. Coverage is international. Each author entry begins with a biographical and critical overview, and a portrait if available. Then follows criticism reprinted from journals, books, and magazines, arranged in chronological order and beginning with material contemporary to the writer so that one can trace the critical reception. Includes reviews. All sets provide a cumulating index to authors in each new volume. Some have title and nationality indexes in each successive volume. Others have separate title indexes. While there is a separate set, Drama Criticism, for criticism of plays there is material in the other series that is not reproduced there. Contemporary Literary Criticism. Detroit: Gale,
