Microforms Collection
The Microforms Collection is located on the second floor of Davis Library and includes over one million items on microfilm, microfiche, microcard and microprint. Readers, printers and a scanner are available in the Collection's Reading Room. A staff member or student assistant is available to assist patrons in locating materials and in using the equipment. The Microforms Collection hours are posted here.
The Microforms Collection contains a vast and diverse range of materials. Back runs of many major United States and foreign newspapers are available on microfilm. The New York Times, the London Times, The Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, Pravda, and La Prensa are only a few of the newspapers in the collection. Also on microfilm are large collection of medieval manuscripts, literary materials and United States and foreign government documents; microfilmed editions of the papers of prominent individuals and organizations; and a wide variety of books, pamphlets, archival collections, magazines, scholarly journals and photographs.
The selection of materials on microfiche is similarly varied and wide-ranging. Included are the ERIC microfiche collection, extensive collections of French and Russian materials, and hundreds of early American periodicals. Most UNC dissertations since 1965 are available in the Microforms Collection on microfiche or microfilm. The holdings of materials on microcard and microprint are less extensive, but they include important collections of American, English and French drama, the Evans collection of American Imprints, 1639-1800, and the Shaw-Shoemaker collection of American Imprints, 1801-1819.
