Finding me
My office is on the first floor of Davis Library, in Research and Instructional Services. Please ask for me at the Reference Desk.

Philip McDaniel
Geographic Information Systems Librarian

As a member of the Research and Instructional Services team, I help library patrons with their research needs. I earned my BA in Geography from Old Dominion University and my MA in Geography from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

I previously worked as a Research Associate at the Carolina Population Center from 2001 to 2012, specializing in the application of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to multidisciplinary population/environment research. I began work as a GIS Librarian in Research and Instructional Services in Davis Library in June 2012.

How Can I Help You?
  • I provide general research assistance in-person, by email, by chat or IM, or by telephone.
  • I provide specialized research assistance in City and Regional Planning and GIS.
  • I provide opportunities to acquire GIS skills. In addition, I teach short courses, speak to classes, and provide access codes for online ESRI short courses.
  • For additional information, please see the Geographic Information Systems Services page.

Need a consult? SCHEDULE ONE HERE
I meet with patrons Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings. If you need to meet at another time please contact me directly.
