Borrowing information:
Borrowing Privileges
All UNC-Chapel Hill students, faculty, and staff must use their UNC One Card as a library card. For all other patrons, library borrower's cards are available at the Davis Circulation Desk during all hours of operations. Card fees for qualified borrowers are $25 per year and $5 to replace lost cards.
Faculty members, currently enrolled students, administration officials, and staff members of TRLN member institutions and other UNC System institutions may use their Campus ID Card to borrow books from the UNC Library. Patrons must first have their local institution's cards activated at the Davis Library Circulation Desk before books can be checked out from the branch libraries on campus. UNC Chapel Hill students and faculty who wish to borrow materials from other TRLN institutions must first present their UNC One Card at Perkins Library (Duke), Shepard Library (NCCU), or D.H. Hill Library (NCSU).
Please contact Davis Circulation for more information.

Renewals
Items that are not on hold for another patron or on reserve may be renewed online through the My Library page.
You may also bring books to the circulation desk of any campus library to recheck out the book. Circumstances such as book recalls, outstanding fines, or an expired borrower's card may prevent online renewal.
Recalls and Holds
All items are subject to recall for other users and Reserve; this means the Library will contact the current borrower and ask him or her to return the book/item sooner. Reserve requests are recalled immediately. Due dates for other items checked out will be changed to 14 days from the date the recall was requested. Due date changes will be noted on the recall notice.
When the book/item is returned, you will be notified and the book/item will be held for 7 days. Requests may be made in person or by using this online form.
Returning Books
It is recommended that all materials be returned to the library from which they were borrowed to avoid delinquency problems.
Fines
Library patrons are expected to return or renew items by the due date that is stamped on the date due slip at the time of checkout. The Library sends overdue notices as a courtesy, but is not obligated to do so.
The Science Libraries each have slightly different policies for fines. Please see the individual library pages for more detailed information about overdue fines, replacement fees, and billing.
