You are about to search the Manuscripts Department's website.
Some search results will take you to web pages that offer
information about the Department or to online exhibits, some
featuring digitized images and/or sound. Most results, however,
will link to finding aids that present, in varying degrees of
detail, descriptions of individual collections held by Department's
four principal sections: the Southern Historical
Collection, General and Literary Manuscripts, the University
Archives, and the Southern Folklife
Collection.
Note that not all departmental holdings are represented by
online finding aids. Information about collections without online
finding aids can be gained through records in the Library's online catalog or
through paper finding aids available at the Department. For
additional information or reference assistance, contact the
Manuscripts Department using the online inquiry
form.
There is no need to include "and" between terms. Simply type
"reserves ul" to yield information on reserves and UL.
You can search for phrases by adding quotation marks. Words
enclosed in double quotes ("like this") will appear together in
all returned documents.
To retrieve pages that include either word A or word B, use
an uppercase OR between terms.
You can exclude a word from your search by putting a minus
sign ("-") immediately in front of the term you want to avoid. Be
sure to include a space before the minus sign.
"Stemming" and "wildcard" searches are not supported.
Searching for "librar" or "librar*" will not yield "library" or
"libraries."
Stop words are ignored. Such terms as "where" and "how," as
well as certain single digits and single letters, are
automatically disregarded. Use the "+" sign to include stop words
in your search. Be sure to include a space before the "+"
sign.
Use the version of the page cached at Google to see your
search terms highlighted. Beware, however, this may not be the
latest version of the page.
The indexes are refreshed approximately every 30 days.
